If you’re reading this, chances are – you probably made it here after browsing through several memes, videos and an endless scrolling spree on social media. But hey, you made it here! There’s hope for you after all. Now don’t take this personally; the human mind was designed to get distracted after all! It’s not you, it’s just the way our mind works! What you can control, however, are your own desires and distractions. If there’s a task at hand, it’s important to focus on it so you don’t feel overwhelmed at the last minute or guilty when the deadline just whooshes right past you. Yes, you can actually power through and completely ignore the “what scenes tonight?” texts, memes, animal videos, and drool-worthy food photos. Here are a few tips for everyone who finds it difficult to focus, which is probably everyone.

Prepping for exams can be very stressful, but there’s one test you don’t need to prepare for at all – Mentoria’s holistic career assessment test! Mentoria helps you figure out which career best suits your personality, skills and interests so you can find your perfect fit!

1. Eat Well, Sleep Well

A tired tired, hungry mind can never focus.

Learning and memory are affected by a lack of proper sleep and food. Our concentration, attention, and attentiveness drift when we are sleep deprived or hungry, making it more difficult to acquire information. Moreover, our view of events may be altered. Because we can no longer correctly analyse the situation, we lose our capacity to make smart judgments.

2. Make That To-Do List

List your milestones on a chart and hang it over your bed.

Keep track of your progress using a chart. This way, you’ll always know what your next step is, and be less likely to abandon your goals. Your objectives will not get buried in your daily life if you use a planner.

To offer yourself a physical reminder that your goal is essential, set deadlines for each section of your goal and note those actions in your chart. These deadlines will also provide you with a plan of action.

3. One Day, One Task At A Time

Break your goal into smaller goals and achieve one at a time.

Only looking at the big picture of your goal is an easy way to lose focus. If you’re working on a big goal, you’re likely to grow frustrated because it appears to be too much effort. Instead, concentrate on one tiny task at a time.

Your goals must be manageable, which may not look likely at first. As a result, it’s ideal to divide it down into smaller parts that can be managed independently.

4. Go Offline Often

The internet is your biggest distraction. Make it go away.

Feeling tempted to check social media again today because of texts? Shut your Facebook browser tab after muting your phone and placing it face down on your desk. You may also install applications and extensions to restrict Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, and any other social media you use.

5. Plan (and stick to) Your Breaks

Plan your snack breaks, loo breaks and online breaks!

According to research, taking planned breaks to recharge your mind and body boosts your energy, productivity, and capacity to focus.

Find activities that allow you to breathe deeply, laugh, move your body, be creative, or “zone out” on purpose to give your mind a rest. These kinds of activities can help you refocus and re-energize.

6. Inhale. Hold. Exhale. Repeat.

4-7-8 breaths or relaxing breaths.

For 4 counts, close your mouth and silently inhale through your nose. After that, hold your breath for 7 counts. Finally, exhale gently enough so you return to the bottom of your breath after 8 counts. This simple technique should be repeated 10 times.

Distractions are a part and parcel of life, no matter what you’re doing. Sometimes, your ultimate goal isn’t even the biggest challenge; avoiding all the distractions on your way is the real challenge! These tips should help you avoid such distractions and focus on the task at hand – achieving your ultimate goal. Keep calm and carry on; you got this!
