5 Family Vacation Ideas this Summer to Explore Children’s Interests
The holidays are either already here or almost there! Is your household all up in arms trying to figure out the ideal holiday destination for the summer? With so many options, it can be hard to make a choice. So we decided to pitch in with a recommendation – why not plan a holiday that helps the children in the house explore their interests! Wondering how? We’ve listed out some ideas for you!
Channel your child’s interests into a career they love! Mentoria’s holistic career assessment test helps us find the right career fit for your child based on their unique interests, personality, and ability.
1. Explore the marine world
If your child is interested in marine life, give them a glimpse of the professional diving world this summer! Pick any one of the scuba diving sites across India like the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Goa, etc., and sign them up for a professional diving course. PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) offers courses like ‘Open Water Diver Course’, ‘Advanced Open Water Diver Course’ by West Coast Adventures, Absolute Scuba, etc. Apart from enjoying a fun summer swimming with the fish, your child could also develop a new skill in the field of their interest!
2. Appeal to their tastebuds\
If your child aspires to become a chef, take them on a food tour across different places! You could take them to Punjab to feast on Amritsari Kulcha and Sarson ka Saag, or Jaipur to gobble up some Dal Bati Churma and Mawa Kachori. You could also go the extra mile and explain why certain dishes are special to a place – the culture, climate, resources, etc. This would help your child learn about how different foods are prepared in different places – the recipes, ingredients, process of cooking, etc. This vacation would be a culinary thrill and a great learning experience for your little chef!
3. Travel back in time
Has your child been talking excitedly about the Indian freedom movement or the Mughal era whenever the opportunity arises? Support their interest in history by exploring some famous historical places! You could head out to Agra to marvel over the Taj Mahal or Fatehpur Sikri. You could also visit the Jhansi Fort, where Rani Lakshmi Bai fought the British troops. This trip to the past will help nurture your child’s love for history and give them a better understanding of the stories they have been hearing and enjoying all along.

4. Into the wild
If your child tends to spend most of their time browsing through National Geographic and Animal Planet, plan a trip that will get them to see this wildlife up close and personal! The thing about nature is that you have to experience it. A safari or wildlife tour would surely make for a great experience. Plan a trip to Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan, home to royal predators like tigers, wild boars and sloth bears. You could visit India’s oldest national park, Jim Corbett, or head out to Kaziranga National Park to spot the one-horned rhinoceros. This walk into the wild will definitely be a great vacation for your little wildlife enthusiast!
5. Get back to nature
If you want your child to learn basic life skills, turn it into a fun experience by taking them on a camping trip. You could use their help to set up the tent, prepare meals and fetch fresh water. You could add a mountain trek to it; take your children on a nature trail and show them the joys of getting away from technology every once in a while! Plan a trip to Rishikesh in the lap of the Himalayas or Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. You could also go to Igatpuri or Lohagad Fort for a trekking trip. Such an experience would help your children learn about teamwork, communication, dedication, etc., and see the beauties of nature while pushing their physical limits through treks!
While most children would love a holiday that helps them relax and take a break, they would love to explore their interests as well. This summer, instead of your usual beach visit or hometown holiday, put in some thought into your vacation plan to make it a fun learning experience for your children. If you need help understanding where your child’s interests lie, we can help you with that too!
